The 2012 Independence Expo, hosted by the fine folks at the United Spinal Association, in Orlando, FL was the event to be at this weekend! With tons of information on the latest and greatest products and organizations committed to facilitating independence for all, this year’s expo was a success and CORE was excited to see a lot of our old friends and to meet some new people.
The Restorative Therapies booth is always a favorite of ours, considering CORE is home to the newest in functional electrical stimulation (FES) technology, the RT600 Step and Stand. Our facility is one of only six in the nation to offer this to our clients as a way to provide them with what we call the “Ultimate Trifecta” of electrical stimulation, weight bearing and gait training. CORE’s FES program is currently accepting applications or you can call us at 321-418-3050 to learn more.
Nearby, our guys and client Eric S. got the opportunity to get up close and personal with the new MV1. The MV1 is a unique addition to the world of modified vehicles because it was designed and manufactured specifically to meet or exceed Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidelines. The MV1 is made in America and is a stylish option for those who may not want a mini-van.
Of course, we are always happy to run into our friends at the Disability Wellness Center and were excited to hear all about their Karting With the Stars fundraiser that is coming up in November. This really cool event will consist of ten teams of four that includes a celebrity, a SCI competitor and two more drivers in a race for the championship. You can even bid to be one of the lucky drivers and support the mission of the DWC! Check out www.kartingwiththestars.org for more information!
Rounding the corner from DWC’s Karting exhibit, we met a few players from the Orlando Magic Wheels! The Orlando Magic Wheels are members of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association (NWBA) where physically challenged athletes compete in fast moving basketball tournament play. Athletes, primarily with lower limb disabilities that range from amputations to paraplegia, participate in this team sport using special sport wheelchairs. In fact, client Dana G. got to check one out and shoot a few (pretend) shots! Thanks to Magic Wheels player Erin for making the CORE team feel so welcome, we’re looking forward to some good times together with you guys in the near future!
After all of this excitement, we had to swing by the SleepSafe Beds booth to let our fave four year old Caden take a break! WooWeeee, this Expo had us running and rolling all over the place! These SleepSafe Beds are actually pretty cool for ped’s patients though. They are like a hospital bed functionally, but they are designed to eliminate falls or entrapment while also being made in kid-friendly colors and sizes. Needless to say, Caden is a fan!
And, of course on our way out to lunch at Fuddrucker’s with the CORE group, Mal had to stop by the Scooter Store exhibit to get a pic with what she said is “the best wheelchair at the expo!” Gator fans… they never cease to amaze with their displays of Gator love.
The Independence Expo was a great day for CORE and for all attendees. If we didn’t get a chance to talk to you we apologize! Feel free to visit our website at www.coreflorida.com or call us at 321-418-3050 to learn more about CORE and hopefully we will see you all next year at the 2013 Expo!
